I began my artistic career as a self-taught potter, mostly making one-off functional pottery with a lot of surface design and texture. My current body of work – called assemblage – combines sculpture in clay with parts and pieces of found objects. Most completed pieces have a whimsical, caricaturistic feel that tells a story.
I like my sculptures to evoke memories of the found objects from which they’re created. Most of the objects that I use performed a simple, everyday task that went largely unnoticed, which in turn inspires me to give them a new and visual life.
